That 25 Things Meme
I don’t feel great about putting this info on Facebook, where this meme appears to have originated, so I’ll do it here.
- I am allergic to dairy, but I grew up on a dairy farm and my favorite food is garlic cheese bread. Tragedy, because I wasn’t always allergic.
- I am married to the coolest, sweetest, lovliest, and most awesome guy from the other side of the world. It took 23 years for us to find each other and two years to get him into America but it was all worthwhile.
- I spent most of my childhood and adolescence depressed because I tried too hard to fit in and failed miserably. Once I stopped trying to be popular and instead embraced my inner geek, I realized how much better life is on this side of the fence. I have been happy ever since.
- I find it challenging to think small. The majority of my ideas are on a grand scale, which is why my paintings are huge and it takes me a year or more to crochet a blanket.
- I am hopelessly addicted to pinball. We have handheld Tiger electronic versions, next-gen console versions, as well as an arcade pinball table (Twilight Zone.) I will play all of them for hours on end.
- I am extremely passionate and obsessive. It makes me overly dedicated to projects I’m working on but also amplifies my worry about life situations.
- Since moving to Seattle my Midwest accent has mostly disappeared but it comes back in full force when I’m talking to our cats.
- I love music, especially when performed live. I am spellbound by anyone who can sing or play an instrument proficiently because I am hopeless. I own much more music than I can possibly listen to regularly and donate money to our local public radio station (KEXP).
- I buy almost everything from the internet now (including groceries.) I buy media in digital format whenever possible.
- I hate clutter and do everything I can to curb it, which includes extensive house cleaning and organizing. All of our media is alphabetized and sorted by category when appropriate.
- I used to be terrified of being abducted by aliens or seeing a ghost (particularly in the mirror.) Living with cats eliminated that fear entirely because I am constantly seeing something moving out of the corner of my eye.
- 8 is my favorite number. It is very comfortable to me.
- I have always lived near water and animals.
- I hate to drive but still managed to drive to Seattle from Wisconsin on my own with a carful of my favorite possessions and a CD wallet full of music.
- The longest I have ever stayed awake is 4 days in a row during college. The hallucinations were kind of funny but I got really sarcastic and snippy with people. I didn’t recognize myself at that point.
- I carry a camera with me wherever I go, even if it’s down the block to mail a letter. I document my surroundings compulsively.
- If I ever had to live somewhere else in the states, it would probably be San Francisco. In the world, probably Vancouver, Sydney or Melbourne.
- I am addicted to creating things. If I am not in the midst of a project I start to get antsy and irritable.
- My Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator is INFJ. I’m part of 3% of the population with this type, as is Jules!
- I flew to Australia to meet some people I’d only known on the internet. It was my first international trip too. I ended up married to one of them!
- I turned down a full-time job offer from Microsoft.
- I have several close friends involved in software and video game design. I giggle gleefully when I see their names in the credits.
- The Aussie accent makes me melt. Kiwi and English accents too.
- I am a happy drunk. I think it’s because I stop worrying about everything. It takes almost nothing to get me laughing in that state.
- I feel very lucky to be where I am in life. I have everything I want and am content and I do not take it for granted. I do what I can to put positive energy out so it can come back to me.
