Ted Leo and the Pharmacists live at the Triple Door

On April 19, about week after the Frames show, KEXP put on another listener show. I’d seen Ted Leo open up for Death Cab For Cutie back in December and was seriously unimpressed by them (only slightly more than Death Cab themselves, as the Key Arena was like the anti-venue for their music. Oddly Jenny Lewis was the highlight of the show!) I’d heard Ted Leo on the radio countless times and enjoyed what I heard then so I chalked up the Key Arena fiasco to just being the wrong place and figured I should give them another chance. I was glad I did as the Triple Door offered a much more appropriate space for them. The only problem was the volume, as Ted Leo tends to be extremely loud. Luckily I’d brought earplugs, which made the audio level comfortable. The show was much more solid than the previous one I’d seen and it felt like he was using the space to his advantage rather than trying to beef up his sound to fill a basketball stadium. This show was even better to listen to on the re-broadcast because it allowed me to hear the bits I missed due to the earplugs. I now feel justified in recommending this group for live shows since they lived up to their reputation.

A friendly face

While waiting for Jules at the airport, I stopped by the bathroom and was greeted by this ridiculous coathook.

The Frames live at the Triple Door

(This is a little bit old, and for that I apologize. :3 I’m doing a bit of catching up with the photos I’ve taken the last month.)

On April 10 KEXP presented a VIP-listener concert at the Triple Door. I hadn’t heard The Frames before this, and the DJ who introduced them was spot on when he said they play very “rousing” music. They were lively and charming, even bringing cups of tea up on stage with them. The lead singer had a very heavy Irish accent which I found rather delightful. I ended up buying their CD “The Cost” after the show since I enjoyed it so much. It was fun to listen to the re-broadcast on the radio later that day.

Wedding shoes

Here’s the shoes Jules and I picked out the other day. They seem to be a decent hybrid of casual and dressy. I think I’ll find some nicer ribbons to put in the toe though.
