A jorb well done
Well, good news finally…I’ve been offered contract work with Microsoft! I went in and signed all the papers and things today and it appears I’ll be starting on Thursday. The particular job I’ll be doing looks like it’ll be right up my alley and I’m extremely excited to begin.
It’s *unbelievable* how much the idea of having gainful employment has altered my view on so many things. My mood has improved drastically…I’ve been talking so much lately my throat is sore. This is very, very good. :D
Dumbledore’s Delectible Dish
I dreamt I was at work in the lunchroom and Dumbledore conjured up a bowl of macaroni and cheese. It was the most delicious mac and cheese I’d ever tasted…I could taste it so vividly I could recall it long after I awoke…and I asked him, “Where did this come from?” to which he replied, “Well, it doesn’t really *come* from anywhere, does it?”
Jules reckons I’m reading a bit too much Harry Potter. Does it show?
Rabbit-Proof Fence
I must say…hooray for Netflix recommendations. I just watched Rabbit-Proof Fence, which tells the tale of three native Australian (Aboriginal) girls who, in the 1930s, escaped and made the journey home over hundreds of miles from a camp they were forced into after they were taken from their families by white men who were trying to assimilate them into white culture. The thing that made this film so amazing was the fact that the director Phillip Noyce, who is Aussie, actually went into Aboriginal settlements and searched for young girls to play the roles of the children, seeking out authentic people whose lives were drastically affected by this period of history. It was just…wow. I highly recommend this film, and I’ll be buying it (and The Terminal) as soon as I can afford it…
…which may be sooner than you think… *wink* :3
Silent Hill Movie Trailer
*leaps around with excitement*
This looks like it can actually hold its own as a film. Wheeeeeeee! Chris, you’d better come and see this with me.
Bob Loblaw Lobs Law Bomb
Heh. I hope those Bob Loblaw jokes never get old.
Well, this morning I went to get Will from the airport as he arrived home from Japan. It seemed like I was driving around most of the morning as I went to get him, took him to work, came home, then drove to my interview and back. Okay, so I was driving all morning. It was raining lightly the whole time, which is kind of nice. I do enjoy a good shower myself. It was only slightly annoying that I was dressed nicely for the interview and got wet, but what can you expect in Seattle. I don’t think anyone would hold that against me. :)
Anyhow, the interview went well–it was basically just to find out what I’m interested in doing and what sorts of skills I have, etc. The place I went to today is a creative contracting agency, so they basically just have businesses they match you up with. The man I talked to deals mostly with Microsoft so it seems likely that’s the place I’ll end up should they decide to hire me. So yay, things are looking up!
I had some leftover pizza for lunch (I never eat before an interview to keep my stomach calm) then I walked over to what is becoming my regular coffee shop for a mocha. It’s a nice little place about the same shape and size of my parents’ house (it looks like a ranch style house actually) and has free wireless. Yay! So…blogging in a coffeeshop on a Mac in Seattle…that’s not cliched or anything…
Anyhow, I’m off to answer emails and read more of Harry Potter. Whee.
The Bob Loblaw Law Blog
It’s going to be really sad when Arrested Development stops airing. That show has some of the most original humor I’ve heard in a long time.
Well, I’m still going crazy with the Harry Potter stuff. I rented the first three movies over the last few days and watched them all. Finished the third book and have already made a dent in the fourth. Borrowed the fifth and sixth from the library. I’m all set for awhile. And I keep dreaming I’m either in school or specifically at Hogwarts. I don’t even realize how much this is taking over my mind.
Also, I watched The Terminal last night as that was one of the first movies I got with my Netflix free trial. I *really* enjoyed it. I was expecting it to be okay at best, but it really exceeded my expectations. Given how much time I’ve spent in airports over the last year this really felt familiar to me, and of course there was a lot of dramatization of the situation, but a lot of it felt possible at least. The end credits were an especially nice touch (you’d have to see the movie to understand.) I like when movies pay that sort of attention to consistency and detail.
Tomorrow morning I go get Will from the airport as he arrives back from his trip to Japan and after that I have an interview. Should be an interesting day.
Social Studies Nightmare
Whenever I feel anxious I tend to have the same dream in slightly different forms, but the gist is always the same: I’m in college, about to graduate, when I realize I won’t be able to because I signed up for a social studies class that I either went to once or never went to, or simply didn’t know about, and therefore failed. This is definitely residual angst from what happened in college, where I had this social studies requirement that I kept putting off for various reasons (ie, I didn’t like the teacher, the class requirements, etc.) SS/history has always been my worst subject and the one I struggle through the most. In the end, I *did* finish the required course and got a good grade in it (surprisingly) but now that’s haunted me ever since. And I’ve had that dream twice in the last week. ~_~
So the rumors *are* true…
…that the Harry Potter books are like literary crack. I just can’t stop. I believe you all now.
*dives into book 3*
