Snain

Since I’ve been feeling extremely unmotivated recently, I decided I’d go hang out in a cafe for awhile just for a change of scenery. The nice thing about Seattle is there is no shortage of coffeeshops and most have free wireless, so yay. The place I chose is only about 3 blocks from our apartment and although it’s on a pretty busy street, it’s still sort of away from all the major things so it’s fairly quiet. I like it.

The weather has been getting a bit colder…and believe it or not, it actually snowed yesterday, for a considerable amount of time. o.o I was under the impression that snow was a very rare thing here…and I guess it is. I was planning on driving to Target yesterday but I ended up not doing that because Will warned me that the hills get pretty slippery, and hills are steep and plentiful here. So instead, I walked to Safeway to buy some groceries. As usual, walking in the snain (a word coined by Chad, which is a mixture of snow and rain), the water crept up the back of my pants legs so by the time I got home, my legs were soaking all the way up to my knees. No matter what I do, how many inches I cut off the end of my pants, they always end up dragging on the ground and getting wet. And on I ramble…

I finished the PS2 version of Resident Evil 4 in the evening and started the “Separate Ways” bonus levels but got frustrated and headachy after being blown up repeatedly with dynamite so I decided to take another walk. I went off in a direction I hadn’t walked before and came across a Goodwill, so I went in on a whim. I had been hoping to find a fleece/down vest at Target earlier so I thought I’d take a look at Goodwill just in case they had something like that. So I spent about an hour poking around the store, trying on shoes and looking at skirts and blouses. (I thought about what it would be like to take Jules shopping with me for these sorts of things since I know he’d love it.) I found a really decent gray hooded fleece vest for $4 but there was one of those colored-tag sales going on so it was 50% off…so I got this essentially new item for $2…it didn’t look like it had ever been worn. It has this logo on the left side of the chest, but I don’t really care. TWO DOLLARS. :D So I headed back home, feeling a little better, but still somewhat headachy. My pants got soaked again.

When I got back, Will had just come home from work so after I took a shower, we watched an episode of Twin Peaks together. While he took a bath, watched a few episodes of Scrubs and later on I crocheted for a bit while he played a video game. Since my headache was still persistent I decided to go to bed relatively early, which turned out to be a good thing because Jules called pretty early this morning. It was nice to get to have a decent-length conversation with him again as it seems like it’s been a long time since we were able to do that. I thought I’d go to bed again after that but I was too awake so I dinked around online for a bit before getting up.

*sigh* This week was both fun and sad. Yesterday Rayme left for Los Angeles. Tuesday evening we all went out to the Cheesecake Factory to give him a Go Away Going Away dinner. The inside of the restaurant is gorgeous. We all ordered cheesecake (of course) and took it back to their apartment so we could enjoy it with the last episode of Battlestar Galactica. The one I got was Godiva chocolate…and…it was like chocolate death. It was just sooooooo rich I could barely handle it. The guys gave us a demo of Chad’s new XBox360. I was quite amused that he had this incredibly powerful machine but aside from playing and emulated Halo 2 the games he’d been playing were on Live Arcade and took barely any power to run, like Geometry Wars and Mutant Storm. The guys all got really into MS and it was a ton of fun to watch but seemed too difficult for me. Afterwards we watched a little bit of Harvey Birdman and by that time it was quite late so Will and I decided to head home. I didn’t know if I’d get a chance to see Rayme again before he left so I gave him a big hug…and it was wonderful. We talked about getting together again the next day.

Wednesday evening Rayme messaged me about getting together, and I waited a bit for Will to get back, then we headed over. We were all pretty hungry but everyone was feeling a bit short on money so I made the outlandish suggestion that we actually cook something together. Everyone seemed pretty excited by the idea but there was concern about lack of cooking materials and space. So I suggested making soup and grilled cheese. That idea was met with approval all around, and after some debate over cheeses, Chad stayed and washed dishes while the rest of us went to the store to buy materials. We ended up with Pepperjack and American cheese and toMAYto and BAYsil soup. Rayme and I cooked while Chad and Will played many levels of Mutant Storm. It was really nice spending that time with him and I felt a little sad that I wouldn’t really get a chance to do that anymore. When we finished making the sandwiches we brought them out but there was nowhere to put the plate so Rayme set it inside the upside down lid of his disassembled XBox. Heh. We ate a nummy dinner while watching Garden State. I enjoyed it more this time through but I still maintain the same opinion about the ending. Rayme and Will spent a ton of time trying to network their computers so Rayme could copy files over to Will’s iPod, but after awhile there was success and we were able to get season 4 of Scrubs from him. Yay. On our way out I gave Rayme another big hug and took some photos. *sigh* I’m *really* going to miss him.

I still don’t have any work even though I pretty much have two jobs now. I’m going in for orientation for one of them next Wednesday and I’ll be signing the contract for the other as soon as it arrives (which should be tomorrow probably) and that should begin on December 12. It’s frustrating knowing that I will soon have work but having to sit and wait. I’m really not sure on the amount of actual work I’ll be getting for either job so it’s tough. I’m considering looking for a third, but it’s hard to make a judgement about what hours I should ask for. I guess I’ll just have to wait a bit and see. *sigh* Tired of waiting.

I feel like I’m disappointing people (myself included) whenever someone asks how work is going and I have to keep answering that I haven’t actually started yet. It’s not something I have any control over since I’ve done what I need to do. I guess short of seeking out a third job there’s nothing more I can do. I think people understand but still…I’m not gaining any income from that and I’m falling further behind. I wish I could think of a viable third option that would be flexible enough and give me enough income so that I could work around the other two jobs. Everything I come up with is either lame or not viable. I *could* make blankets and sell them, but in order for it to be worthwhile I’d have to charge a *minimum* of $800 apiece for them, considering I have to spend about 3 months working on each. That just won’t fly. No one would pay for that. Well, I shouldn’t say that. People would pay that for something like my Katamari blanket, but I’m not going down that road. I had enough frustration dealing with stupid copyright crap with my Caroline in the City site, and that was something that had fallen out of popularity. Not only that, but no one was making a profit from it. ~_~ I won’t ever take that risk again, even if there’s no money involved. It’s just not worth it. Besides, my conscience would be destroyed over the idea of using someone else’s art as my own, even if it is my own interpretation of it.

Oh yeah, here’s a pyramid of bowling balls in front of our neighbor’s house.
