Oogie’s Revenge
I spent most of tonight playing The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie’s Revenge for PS2. It is surprisingly good and quite challenging, even on easy mode. The characters are very faithful to the movie and it continues in the musical tradition (with dance moves to enhance damage to bosses!) even though it doesn’t have most of the original voice cast. My major complaint is that they all pronounce Dr. Finkelstein as “FinkelSTEEN” even though in the movie it’s clearly “FinkelSTINE.” I also don’t like the way you can’t control the camera at all, but it seems to play like a combination of Devil May Cry and God of War (closer to the latter actually) so the lack of camera control isn’t surprising (as it very well may use that engine…it is a Capcom game after all.) It was a little difficult for me to get into the feel of the combat but now that I have, it’s a lot more enjoyable. And challenging…my god…so challenging. I think I’m about halfway through it now, so it’s a little on the short side, but for the type of game I think that’s about right. I prefer games in the 6-12 hour range (ie, Silent Hill) so this is good for my taste. Mmm.
To make things more fun, I plugged my PS2 into my LCD screen (it has component and S-video inputs!) and into my new 5.1 speaker system (I know PS2 isn’t 5.1 but it still does nice surround sound, and that game uses Dolby Pro Logic II) so it became a full media experience. :3~~
Huu, there was one level in particular that was giving me fits. I tried and failed three times before finally beating it, and after succeeding, I found that my heart was pounding, I was shaking and covered in sweat. It was then that I realized I needed to take a little break and calm down, so I took that opportunity to eat supper. Yes, I get a little bit involved in video games at times. ~_~ I’m sure Jules would be proud of me.
I think tomorrow we’re going to go see Mirrormask, the new Neil Gaiman movie. Rayme saw it and said it was awesome (and he actually *met* Neil Gaiman last week!) so that should be fun. We saw Serenity last weekend (the Firefly movie) which was fantastic, and afterwards went to The Cheesecake Factory, this amazingly yummy restaurant downtown that specializes in…you guessed it. Mmmm.
This afternoon Will and I went down to Market St. to get some sandwiches and we stopped in this specialty tea shop so I could get some gourmet jasmine tea. It was a lovely little place and the owner was extremely kind, calm, gentle, and friendly. I commented to Will that I bet he goes home and rocks out to death metal. There was also an art walk but we decided not to go because it was raining and we both felt like playing video games. Oh well, there’s one every month so we still have plenty of opportunities. Seattle is a lovely place when I actually go out and do stuff. o.o
